How to become a member of AIU?

Who can be a member?

· Underwriters (Non-medical & Medical) working in the Underwriting function in the Life Insurance Companies (Life, Health & Group
· Senior management team members of the Life Insurance companies who control the Underwriting teams (Life/Health/Group), wherein Underwriting function is within their scope of AUDIT/control.
· “Medical support team of UW- members who report into the Underwriting function( What ,if reporting to OPS –Head)???.
· Chief Medical Officers/Medical Officers who are attached to the Underwriting function.
· Reinsurers and their respective team members who handle UW & Claims functions.
· TPA employees dealing in medical network or health underwriting
· UW Consultants with insurance companies/reinsurance companies.



Application Checklist

· Enrolment form duly signed –indicating therein complete details of employment (current, along with last two assignments wherever applicable).
· Qualifications & Topics of Interest to be noted in the Enrolment form for reference
· Alternate /personal e-mail ID to be taken along with the official mail ID.
· Current passport sized photograph, with the name and cell no. to be written on the reverse side.
· Reference of any existing member with their membership no., office, position/Title , e-mail ID, Cell no., to be mentioned therein.

Process

· Mail to be sent to office representative.
· Form + (Cash/DD/Cheque)+ 2 passport sized photographs to be collected.
· References and other details to be verified.
· Official receipts to be issued along with the ID Cards.
· Registration details ( with date of expiry) to be printed on the ID Card.

About Us

AIU is result of the dedicated efforts by group of Senior Underwriters who are leading and guiding Underwriting Teams in various Life Insurance and Reinsurance companies in India. This association is formed with motive to encourage and popularize Underwriting as a profession and therefore train and guide underwriters in India. We have aims that are common and believe in working together as partners to help Indian underwriters reach their professional goals.

AIU started as a discussion group in late 2006. From eleven dedicated underwriting professionals it has grown in leaps and bounds over the last three years. AIU made a humble beginning in this respect in 2007 by successfully planning first ever underwriting seminar for Indian underwriters by Indian Underwriters. It was followed by another Underwriting Seminar in Oct 2008 and 2 workshops including a workshop at Gurgaon. All these programs were extremely well attended.

AIU is a medium to help underwriters in building themselves and operate in a manner which will exhibit exceptional professionalism. For this we use various ways such as Seminars, workshops. We will also explore the possibility of encouraging technical education by tying up with different educational institutes for members etc.

First two seminars of AIU have been extremely successful and were attended by more than 150 underwriting and other insurance professionals in 2007 and over 250 in 2008. We were also able to attract esteemed speakers of national and international repute and authority in their respective areas. In our first two Seminars we were fortunate to have Mr R Kannan, Member (Actuary)-IRDA and Mr K. Subrahmanyam, Executive Director (Actuarial)-IRDA as Keynote Speakers. In 2009, the annual seminar is being graced by Mr G N Agarwal, President- Institute of Actuaries as Keynote speaker.

AIU does not certainly intend to limit itself as a medium of training but also aims at working in the larger interest of Underwriting profession and Insurance industry. Since the opening of insurance sector, our industry has been undergoing evolution. Its growth is phenomenal. The underwriting profession is also growing in similar pace. This creates a need to have some platform for all the underwriting professionals where they can share their views on current and emerging issues. AIU is one such platform, AIU will encourage group discussions on current topics and sharing views of emerging issues and if required taking up worthy causes with other forums.

It is possible to attain the goals whi ch AIU has set for itself only if Underwriters join this movement and work for themselves.
